Russell Klein (DentureStore on Etsy): Legit Or Conman?

Hello, pleased to meet everyone. :)

So, I'm desperate. I need dentures.

While Googling, I stumbled across Russell Klein on Etsy. He does by-order custom dentures.

Great reviews. Great prices. On the surface, he seems legit.

The problem is . . .

There's an infamous company that does the EXACT SAME thing as Russell. This company seems to operate under multiple domain names. Worst of all, this company appears to lean towards the scammy side. They're all over Rip Off Report and similar sites with complaints and negative reviews.

My lingering, worrying thought is that Russell Klein may be a front for this company, and the positive reviews paid shills.

I hope like hell he's not, but it's something I needed to investigate before I sent out hard-earned money.

So, my questions:

Has anyone here tried Russell? Is he legit? Is there any way his legitimacy can be confirmed?

Thanks.

Through some digging to find the information on how to get to Russell Klein's site, I have finally found it. It seems that it would be easier to access, but wow! This is a long way around to find it. Try this link to his Etsy store and you can contact him from there. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtTYFqo-7lMb9TNYgHdgV8Q

I hope this helps! I've sent him a message and am waiting for him to respond so I can see what he says. I'll report back and let all know how this experience is.

Jo's Dentures is a better option. Check out Donna Sloan on youtube, she's done extensive reviews and his work is AMAZING.

why is Jo's a better option?

I personally believe that while Russells work is beautiful, Jo's is of better quality. It's also cheaper and his communication with his clients is like nothing I've ever seen before. His turn around time is also quicker and he gives the option of an extended warranty. He makes sure to ask every question under the sun that most wouldn't even think of to ensure you get the absolute best fit and function possible.

Who is Jo, how do you find his site or store? Is it as complicated as finding Russell's?

For one thing JO is a real denture maker who shows you who he is. He will communicate on email, phone, text.He has a Facebook group and website.      Russell Klein is the name of a lab with some workers. It is a name like Betty Crocker.  No one can leave anything less than a great review for RK . If he thinks he may get a bad review he blocks the customer's ability to contact through etsy. . "He' whoever he is does not communicate with the customer. No customer has ever spoken to him.   A variety of people answer his emails. You can tell it is not the same person. I would not send anyone his way after my experience. Among other issues and this is crucial, RK company cuts the denture short at the back so the dentures are not stable. There was another FB group that is called the Uncensored Russell Klein where people can give their honest reviews.

Question, do you have to have all teeth extracted for these dentures or do they have overture dentures for people with some good teeth left?

I plan to order some from RK. I have a great set of $5000 dentures that look, fit and feel great, but I want a backup pair. I'm willing to gamble the $500 on RK. Who knows, they may become my main set.

I am over 1 year wearing my Russel Kliens I had no problem getting them and they are well worth the money, I am surprised he doesn't charge more, but he is staying true to his passion. I thank god for him every day cause no one knows I have dentures unless I tell them, I can move my mouth normally never do I need adhesives or anything like that. Do it and please let us know

$500? You should be aware that the actual cost of the dentures is just the beginning. By the time I paid for months of frustration & disappointment getting wax try-ins that were a bad joke along with all of the impressions that supposedly had to be done again & again; I had well over $1,000 invested. Once I finally gave up & realized it was hopeless, I did get the original cost of the dentures back, but the rest of my money was down the drain. You should also know that Russell Klein might be a real person, but you won't be dealing with one person, much less him. Every message I received in the months I wasted on that fiasco was clearly from a different person each time who never knew what had gone before so I always had to backtrack to bring the current "Russell Klein" up to speed. Horrible experience.

So let's say they are $1000. Besides being impatient and frustrated, what actually COST did you have?

My first pair with RK was perfect. Absolutely perfect and took 4 weeks. Then my dentist rebased the denture. I was livid. Ordered another one from RK. It took 8 weeks and was ok. Looked great. Fit OK, not great. I made it work. Then I ordered a flexible partial. OMG the nightmare of it. 4 wax tryins. 5 months. Overnight shipping charges. A partial finally arrived that didn't match the last wax tryin at all. The left side was ok. The right wouldn't fit in between my natural teeth. Not even close. My dentist tried to fix it for me. Couldn't get it right. It was rough, as in not poloshed. Too big and actually broke. It took a month to get a response from RK about it. He never made it right. Never offered. Just kept saying that he had been on vacation. I am out $1200.00 and 5 months of waiting. I loved my first set. I mean, I wish I still had them. But the rest if my experience was horrible. So what am I out?? $1200.00 of my very hard earned money and nothing at all to show for it.

Diane O'Kelley, in the first place, I don't consider waiting almost SIX MONTHS "impatient." Yes, it was a frustrating experience. As I said, the wax try-ins I received---all of them-- were so bad they were funny in an awful sort of way. No way were they made for my mouth, none of them, and there were several. No matter how bad the wax try-ins were, regardless of whether or not they even fit, I had to pay over & over for more. I paid extra for the so-called premium set of dentures that were supposed to be custom made for me. And yes again, it was quite frustrating, not to mention worrisome & a legitimate cause for concern, that my communication with the alleged Russell Klein was handled by a different person in every instance for months. Each time, I had to go back to square one & tell the person on the other end what had transpired before, why the latest ridiculous wax try-in didn't work, etc etc etc.

What was I actually out? Hmmm....let's see....how about MONTHS of waiting for a set of dentures I could wear without ever getting them? How about several hundred dollars worth of "extra" charges  for such things as impressions they claim need to be done again & again, wax try-ins, and more? That may not be anything much in your book, but it is in mine and would be to most people. I finally had to open a case with Etsy to get roughly half my money back. Just think of all the people who have been through the same scenario & all the money that leaves in RK's pocket for non-refunded charges that can't even be verified? Hundreds of dollars over & above the refund for the initial payment for the dentures they didn't get, times heaven only knows how many people every day, week, month & year? Nice little chunk of change, huh? Can we say "ra-cket?"

People, beware of all these probably paid shills that are on here and other places on the internet, shouting the praises of Russell Klein dentures. Sure, there may be a lucky few that get dentures that fit & look halfway presentable, but I daresay they're very much the minority. I don't make dentures. I'm not in competition with Russell Klein or anybody else in that profession. Don't have a horse in that race. So why would I---or anybody else that has merely told the truth about their bad experience with Russell Klein---lie about it? If you want to ignore the truth, Diane O'Kelley, go ahead. Proceed at your own risk. You've been fairly warned. The end.

I asked a question. Your aggressive attitude, unwarranted defensiveness and condescending tone towards me gives me pause in believing your story 100%. I simply wanted to know what expenses, beyond the impression kit and dentures, that you had to incur. According to his page and others, those are the ONLY 2 expenses. I frankly don't appreciate the snotty tone.

Let me try to answer this. You pay $50 for wax tryins. I had 4. Others have more. Each one is $50. Like her I had to redo impressions. Not sure why. Never had to with dentures. Only after the third wax tryin for the partial wasn't right. I had to pay for that as well. In that kit I was missing the wax bite. I had to buy that too. Plus shipping. Each way had to be done with express due to the heT (they can melt or dry out). So, $500, plus 4 wax tryins was $700. Then shipping each way was 25 x 8 plus impressions and denture. $1100.00. Then my dentist appointment for adjustment was $100. I have $1200.00 in the process and no partial. At Affordable dentures the cost is $1200 for a flexible and it's done in 3-7 business days. If it doesn't fit their guarantee allows remakes up to 100 days. RK has no guarantees. Don't like what you get?? it's too bad. If he had even offered to do anything for me I would have been happy. He basically said, "i was on vacation. Sorry you are not happy. " then 3 months later I got a shipping notice he had shipped me a package. I was excited. Maybe he redid the partial. Nope. He "accidentally " marked things shipped to clear his Etsy account....uh huh.

I had experience with RK too. I would not send anyone in his direction. I agree there is more than one person on his end answering emails and no way would time permit one man to be making all of these dentues by himself. . In my opinion he seems to be usung his 2 denture labs to  do his orders, which would not be bad if they had good quality controll, although etsy is to be hand made goods produced by the seller only And his bio says he is doing these dentures by himself. The 2 pretty girls who promote his wares  could certainly be benenfitting in some way as they convinced me to buy the high dollar dentures.
After this experience and then with another online guy I started making my own dentures and have a Facebook group, "Do Your Own Dentures".  When requesting membership just answer a few questions. We are sharing onfo on making and adjusting our dentures.
I can imagine a person could get very snarky after going through all of those hoops and money paid out through the RK company. If you  are not satisfied with RK work you can send the dentures  back to get 1/2 of your original purchase price back, and then you have nothing for all you have invested. Read the list of charges the other person spent. That is not part of the refunded amount. It can be a night mare and an expensive one. Yes at Affordable you may have to really keep after them to make your dentures correctly but you have recourse if they do not produce what they sold to you. Meanwhile I will continue to make my own and have as many sets as I want and they are comfortable. And I am getting rather good at this and you can do it too.

Oh and thank you, Barbara. Not sure I'd ever be brave enough again to try mail order dentures but I have heard good things about this one. Of course, I also heard good things about RK. lol But one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch.

One last comment: As far as this "other" Russell Klein operation...his evil twin if you will...I seriously doubt there is one. No, based on my own experience with RK, I find it more likely that it's all the same outfit & the supposedly false Russell Klein was made up to account for all the bad PR. I went directly through the Russell Klein denture store on Etsy, not some fly by night domain. Be willing to bet that almost everyone else has, too. So there you have it. Claiming that a fake RK is getting a load of complaints & bad reviews reminds me of what the police have always called the TODDI defense: The Other Dude Did It. lol

I don't know either unless like I said, some people actually manage to get a decent set in a timely manner. Sounds like you got lucky the first time & then your luck ran out. :(

Have you tried contacting Etsy about getting some of your money back? You won't get it all back but something would be better than nothing.

Can't complain to Etsy. He bills offsite for the custom denture or partial.

Huh. He billed me through Etsy for what was supposed to be my custom. I'd complain to Etsy anyhow. Maybe if they get enough complaints they'll shut down his store. It makes him look legit to have that store.

I wish there was a way for me to remove all of the positive things I have said because even though they were true I do not recommend him to anyone after the problems that I had when I was getting my partial. Or should I say never getting a partial that could be worn. I don't know what happened but I went from incredibly happy satisfied client to somebody who tells everybody not to bother with him and not to try to get anything out of him. He ripped me off to the tune of almost a $1000 I have nothing to show for it. No partial. No money back. And no communication from him. He has changed immensely over the last 2 years and I would not recommend any body go through.

The guy just takes your money. Its 1/5th the cost of real dentures...dont believe these paid groupies...you could spend 1k and have no recourse if you get screwed....none at all...a months pay down the drain...don't believe these paid sell outs. if you post a neg comment about rk on fb your post will be removed...get the idea yet..the first response from the seller included the words......please remove your review....also the fastest response i got by the way

I hope people just make their own dentures. Go to Do Your Own Dentures on FB group and justy forget the hassle with other makers.
