Dentures that look like my natural teeth???

So I'm 29 and need dentures. Everyone says try to save your natural teeth. But I need root canals in almost every tooth in my mouth and my insurance won't cover it. I literally just have front teeth, all of my back teeth were pulled throughout the yrs. my front teeth are looking ok but not up close. The teeth that I do have kill me all of the time. I'm so done with tooth pain it isn't even funny. Although I wish I could save my teeth it really isn't an option so please don't suggest it. My question is: can I have dentures made to look exactly like my natural teeth? I was told it could be done by a dentist I saw months ago but there I would have to wait a month for them to come in and that's a no go. I cannot be without teeth. My new dentist says it can't be done that they will select teeth that resemble the shape of mine. My problem is that I do not want the perfect straight typical old people denture. I want them to look like mine. Mine are beautiful and a tad crooked and still in great enough shape to make a cast. Is this possible??? I just don't want people to know I have dentures and I really do not want to look different.

So I was in kind of the same boat.  Unfortunately, they couldn't make it look the same.  We got the color (and I decided to go one shade whiter than my natural color) and the shape really closely resembles mine, but they couldn't do exact.  I thought I would hate it because my teeth gave me personality, but now I love it.  I'm sure if you find the right place, and you pay enough money, they can get something close, but it will never be a mold based on your current teeth.  The teeth aren't hand made, they come in sets and are placed in the denture.  A denturist can make one look a little crooked by hand, but the teeth are going to look like whatever set you pick out.  Hope that helps!

I've just got my dentures at 45 I had perfect teeth but my facial bones kept srinking they became so loose they almost we're falling out I went to gental dental paid $2000 for a top denture. I never got to pick the shape or color they don't suit me they're way to white and to long, I have a very small face I look totally different and not good different I hate them!!! I wish I'd gone to a different place even thou this place had a good reputation.

Tell them you want a refund because they are unsatisfactory.  Tell them about the fact that they don't "fit", not necessarily about the color.  You should have been able to pick both.  Tell them that if they don't give you a refund within 7 days, you will be reporting them to the local Dental Board and it would be a shame for them to loose their license.  I recommend that everyone record their visits!

I also started out at gentle dental, could not wear my bottoms at all, they would not go in my mouth... i ended up getting my money back, and having both top and bottoms done somewhere else. I started this journey a year and a 1/2
ago. I havent had any relines done by dentist, but i use the reline kits, not perfect but getting better...

You could join do your own dentures facebook group and make your own. If you ask to join be sure to answer the questions. About 15 people per week are refused because they do not answer the questions. It is a very good group.

Can you really report the dentist if you aren't satisfied? I have temporary dentures right now (I'm 39) and I'm so afraid that my permanent dentures will look fake (too straight across, too short, etc.)...

You can always bring in a picture and ask the dentist to send that to that lab. It may not be exact but the lab should be able to get it close. Higher quality teeth also look more natural so ask the dentist for the price difference. Keep in mind that if you want teeth as soon as yours come out that is called an immediate denture and they are generally a loose fitting denture. Reline are needed which adds to the cost.
Remember you should be able to tell the dentist what you are looking for ( crooked teeth, spaces etc) and they should be able to accommodate within reason

Thank you for your comment, I'd just like to say I did bring a picture & I've had 3 relines still can't wear them, I doubt I'll get a refund I've had them for a while, was it would take few months to get used to but its also the fact of how fake they look that bothers me.

i am also looking for someone to work with me who knows how to create a natural looking smile-before i retired-i worked for a dental lab-when dentists sent a pic. in for a denture case-the owner actually told me "he didn't even look at it"..made them the way he wanted to-he was/is very arrogant and many cases came back-i was embarrassed to even deliver them-i told him but he was just about the $ and didn't care.  i could have him make me what i need-this is where it's tough and where i'm 'stuck'....he doesn't know how to make dentures that look good-i really need some-that 'rare' dentist who has an eye and knows making a denture that looks natural is 'an art' like finding the right person to cut/color your hair-how many bad one's compared to 'good ones' have we had-at least me-i need someone in so. cal.(surrounding area) who's found someone who knows what they're doing or a lab. tech. or denturist who can help me-replace my full upper and lower partial.  i am 'hiding out' at home and it sucks!

You could join do your own dentures facebook group and make your own or adjust the ones you have or remake them. If you go there be sure to answer the questions. About 15 people per week are refused because they don't answer the questions.

thanks-i've learned enough that i probably could make them-or 'be a part of' making them.  i just worry about getting a good first impression-so it fits-picking the right size/color/shade of teeth without 'seeing' them but after all i've been through-who cares MORE than me and who will try more than me-no one.

You can get what you want, but in reality you will have to spend lots of money. There is nothing like having your natural. Most people have dentures and you can't even tell, you need a good dentist and money .......

that's not really true-i know a denturist (he's retired or i'd go to him) made THE best dentures for about 800.

Yes...you can get teeth you like. No one knows I have dentures except those who knew me before. My teeth were bad. And I had so much pain too. In jaws too. My husband told me my breath stunk. So I get ya. But, I would suggest going to a few dentists that have a free consultation. And then they can tell you idea of what they can do. More importantly you can check Them out. I learned hard way...dummy me would make appointment and they charge me for telling me what I didn't want to hear. And on this site, I've learned so much. So ask questions. There are options and some work with cost. I ended up using care credit cause I didn't have enough money. It is very discouraging so I feel for you. When I was about your age I put it off. If I hadn't I would of had more options. The thing is cost, a trustworthy dentist or denturist, and what will work for you. What you want. Anything can be done. I found out today I can have impressions done by MAIL. Had no idea. Oh, and you don't have to wait for months for teeth..if you go for dentures, they can give you immediates until they can put in permanents. Just cost more. I had my teeth pulled and dentures put right in. But, I can't afford the permanents but they do reline them and make them fit. Honestly mine don't fit well...but that's mostly cause of my age, 56, and my jaw is out of line. Nut, I can wear my uppers and no one notices I don't have lowers in. So you have options. You tell them what you want and if they can't do it say, Next!! Because someone will. They work for you. They don't do this for free. Just find the one you trust. And I saw someone, young, beautiful teeth. She looked perfect. I had to compliment. She told me due to accident, she needed dentures. She told them she wanted Julia Roberts smile. They told her her mouth wasn't quite large enough....but they made them to fit. And she did have the perfect smile. So your age may work for you. I remember the pain..im sorry for you. But, it's gone now. Keep looking. Take care

Not one person could tell the difference between my permanent teeth and upper denture. I did not have crooked teeth but rather a bridge before this. You can get permanent dentures placed immediately which I did after the extractions although painful for a bit, the dentist thought it was best. They included the realign in the price. I know you don't want to hear this, the dentures will look beautiful but they will never feel like your real teeth. They do not look like my grandma or mother but rather look like the real thing. Good luck!!!

Hi there,

I have an immediate denture on the top only and it looks exactly like my natural teeth with the exception of my one Buck tooth. They look very natural.

Mine look ok but after a year still can't eat with them. I should have sold my car to save my top teeth.

Nancy..i can't eat with mine either and it's been a year for me too. I just want to go to a restaurant once again!! I feel for you, but my dentist office tell me that I'm not trying hard enough and should be able to eat. And at same time said that I'll need new ones done as these will never fit. Like I did it. I asked about cost...would-be more that what I spent already. And thinking I should see some sort of specialist..cant remember the name.. by then I was seeing dollar signs....i haven't seen the dentist since he pulled teeth. I don't know if someone made mistake and don't want dentist to know. Or if it's money. Anyway I'm very sorry for you, but I hadn't heard of anyone yet who can not eat at all. Many have trouble with them staying put but I have to admit that I'm jealous they stay in somewhat. I can't wear lowers, trying to. But the uppers are ok and they look good. At least I'm not so scary looking. If you find a way to get them to work to eat
..pass it on
I'm on my own mission to get my dentist or someone to fix them. It's not my fault. Take care.

Hi Theresa, since getting dentures I have begged other people to do anything to keep their teeth. I told my daughter it's like driving a stick shift car with roller blades on!! Unfortunately my dentist told me that about 30% of people just never adjust. I dream of getting enough money for some implants. In the meantime I stick to stir fries, soft stuff. All the best to you and let me know how you get on.

My dentist and staff told me..np problem. Just keep them in 24 hours for couple days, then out to clean, and then out at night if I wanted to ..yes I wanted to. I did till second day I ran fevers. Took them out, rested, then back on horse. I did best I could.

I guess I'm not the only one after reading these comments. I miss eatibg steak and corn on the cob! Also I thought my original teeth were much prettier than my dentures before they started falling out. So no way I can get dentures to look my own did?

I believe, since you said "My problem is that I do not want the perfect straight typical old people denture" that you have more problems than having to get dentures.  Give a round of applause for the OLD PEOPLE!!!!!!  (_)?

I know...i remember my parents and grandparents teeth. My parents were better than grandparents and others after I knew were better. The old ones from back in the day looked like dentures. They didn't look like real teeth should. Now the take them look natural...

My mum has had dentures for over 50 yrs and noone knows they arent real .She gets complimented on how beautiful her"teeth"are. She has told some people and theyre amazed and shocked. I had my lowers done 6 weeks ago and they look normal. Get my uppers done in 2 weeks so hoping they look good too.

So sorry. I meant no offense at all. I have seen a couple denture wearers lately and they have that typical straight edge, all teeth the same shape kinda thing goin on. You can just tell they are dentures. It scares me. I'm just so frightful people will be able to tell. I don't have the best insurance but it does pay for everything I need. I'm just worried I will get the lowest quiality package. Sorry this is just very emotionally hard for me. I've been struggling a lot. Again, so sorry for my ignorant comment.

You're not offending anyone ,you're scared which you're allowed to be. I was scared when i got my lowers but once they were in and i looked in mirror they look kinda cool. Now im in the scared process again to see what my tops will look like soon. I even find myself now looking at peoples teeth when talking to see if they have dentures or not and honestly i cant tell at all.

Your dentures may not look exactly like your natural but they wont look fake either
