Immediate dentures, eating, and adhesives

I am VERY frustrated. I'm almost a month in after having all my teeth pulled and getting my immediate dentures. I'm desperate for some real food that isn't liquid. I'm hungry pretty much constantly because I can't eat properly with these teeth. After 4 adjustments , they aren't hurting anymore, thank goodness and I think I have the top ones figured out. Those ones generally don't move.

At this point, I've tried Super Poligrip and Fixodent. I have to be honest, neither are helping in the least with my bottom denture. I'm using the adhesives as directed, and today I even put it all around the bottom denture and some more on the inside edge at the front.

Now I'm trying to chew a bread sized piece of lemon cake. It's been 45 minutes and I'm only half done. My tongue keeps moving behind the denture and wants to push it out while I'm eating. Liquids are fine, it's solids that I'm having a problem with. And the denture adhesive is not working with my tongue pushing against it. It's making food go under the denture so I have to loosen it to get the food out, but the denture seems to be loose already. I don't seem able to control this.

I can't even eat a piece of cake I'm trying to chew (yes, I know it will melt in my mouth and all that so I don't really need to chew it, this is practice food so I'm trying to teach myself how to chew with the dentures in). I can't eat on the left side at all which is even worse than trying to eat on the right.

How do I keep the bottom denture down while still allowing me to swallow? This isn't like say a pepsi or something, it's solid food. Am I using the adhesives wrong? Is it to little adhesive? I know my mouth is still changing but I thought I had it today and it still didn't work.

Hi Melissa, you're more patient than me. I don't even try to eat with my denture ( top only). I take it out and eat. I tried for a few months but I choke. I hope it gets better for you.

Can you eat solid food without the bottoms? How do you chew? I'm just dying for a burger or something but if I can't handle a piece of cake, there's no way I can handle a burger. I've already cried once over this.

Bottom dentures are always a problem
Go back to your dentist and tell him the dentures do not work and you want an adjustment that will make them work
There ought to be a law against bottom dentures and dentists should stop selling them.
That is what you paid good money  for and  you  should get a demtre you can wear and eat with
You did not pay for dentures  that sit in a drawer
Tell them you want  it fixed or you want  a refund

Melissa, I also did not have much luck with the immediate bottom denture...the perm is a little better...but still have eating issues.  I found a denture creme called Secure.  it is waterproof and it holds the bottom denture provided you don't eat or drink anything hot.  After use you have to wait about 15 minutes for it to set...then your good to go.  I have found it better to not bite into anything, cut up small and place it on either side of your mouth to chew with them immediate dentures.  Now with the perm.  I am still practicing but it is a little better, I can eat a burger, not a large one but with everything you try start small.  I also found that anything creamy will loosen the bottom plate the creaminess gets under the plate and loosens it, this would be the immediate denture.  You can just google "Secure" denture creme it comes in sensitive and reg. both are great.  It is better than anything else I have tried. It says it holds for 12 hours and it does. (provided you dont eat anything really hot) You don't have to use as much therefore you don't have the oozing and yuckkkky taste.

Hope this helps, Sam Dean

P.S. It has been 1 year since the pulling and the temp.  to the perm. dentures, this month..

Go back to your dentist and tell him you are being tortured and he should  either fix the problem or give you a refund
Lets just start from there

Also, Melissa If I get to frustrated or hungry I just take out the bottoms and dig in.  Be careful not to bite too hard or chew too hard cause remember you still have your top teeth in.

I was told to chew on both sides of my mouth to keep the lowers from moving .but then my top dentures and bottom click together so i eat without my dentures. I find it easier to eat without them and my food doesnt go cold ..

Go back to your Dentist and tell him to either fix the problem or give you a refund
You are the customer and you want what you paid for and that is a denture   that works

I think my dentures must be sized wrong or something. Your teeth aren't supposed to touch so much. Mine touch almost all the time. And if I bite down on them, the front of my bottoms seems to bounce down when I bite down, and then pop back up after I release the bite. I haven't gotten secure yet but I'm going to email them and ask for a sample. I don't seem able to buy it at walmarts here. I've been trying to avoid densurefit until after my first reline which is on Oct 10. I STILL can't eat solid foods.

This is driving me mad. I expected to have some frustrations with it but this is just really aggravating.

I think we had ours done at the same time and I'm having the same issues. I've lost a total of 17 lbs and I am constantly hungry. No denture cream holds the bottom in place, not even Secure. I've had three adjustments and am finally pain free, but I can't chew properly and I'm still slurring my words. I go next week for my soft reline and hope it helps with the fit.

Keep me posted on your progress!

Rock chick
Let your dentist fix the problem and if he can't fix it get a refund

You paid for a denture   that works
Don't let them get rid of you just  because they have your money and think it is their money now

Melissa my  dentures hit all the time also..not sure if they are suppose to or not...I have perm. dentures and I still can not bite anything without my  bottoms coming loose or out.  I will keep trying but I have told my dentist I think the teeth are too big for my mouth..I guess Ill have further discussion with him.  Even when they are both in they are not comfortable..I feel like I have a mouthful and they are constantly touching..I can not chew food properly so I still eat mostly soft foods...I have had my perm. for a month now!  This has been a 1 year process for me and I am getting tired of it  not working correctly :-(  Sam

So I finally managed to make it through a meal of nothing but noodles and red sauce. But after a few bites that bottom just popped up and I had to use my existing teeth and tongue to keep pushing it down every time I bit down on it. This is driving me crazy. I'm eating like once a day, the rest of the day is ensure's. I am seriously starting to regret doing this.

Rock-chick : I've had four adjustments. No more pain, but like you I can't chew ANYTHING, and I still can't quite talk right. I finally got sick of that bottom and pulled it out after the meal was done though I still have my top in. I really hope the reline for you works.

I've seen people swear by densurefit but I'm not sure that would be a good idea since I haven't had the first reline yet. But if it's still doing this after the reline, I'm going to try that densurefit. This is going to be next to impossible to do for a full year which is how long they estimate this total process is going to take.

DenSureFit IS a reline--basically just a DIY reline.
It takes a while for your mouth to adjust/muscles retrained and your tongue to figure out WTH is going on.
Smoothies with Protein Powder for nutrition.
Yogurt is good too.
It's easier for some people to adjust.
Hang in there.
