How long do you have to wait to use adhesive on dentures? Today will be day 4 and my bottom teeth don't want to stay in place.

This is a good question, Marcy. It depends on your healing, but in general, you can start using a denture adhesive about 2 weeks after your extractions. Check with your dentist to find out for sure. Keep in mind that as your mouth heals from extractions, swelling will go down, which will cause your teeth to come loose. Visit your dentist for an adjustment - a small adjustment can make a big difference in fit! Frequent adjustments are common with new dentures.

Hang in there, it will get better!

I also have the same ? As Marcy.. But I need a more in depth answer. My extractions were tough and they took 3 days to do. My teeth had to all be broken to be taken out and I have open craters in my gums where the teeth were. Do I need to wait until the holes are completely closed before I can use the powder & can I use the powder when the bone shards start/are coming out?

I started using a denture adhesive on the 5th day post extractions. It made a world of a difference for eating and comfort. I am now on day 11 and use the adhesive once a day and each day gets better with the eating and overall feel of the fit. My only problem now is how to get the sticky adhesive off the roof of the mouth after taking the denture out for the night. It can really stick to the roof. Paper towels seem to work to dry and pull the residual adhesive off the roof of the mouth.

Use hot water rinses and a dry face cloth or towel helps getting it all off.. But I read eating chocolate removes it.. Though I haven't tried it.. Next time I will try a vinegar rinse and or with bi carb to see if it helps with the sticky glue on the pallet

Fyi... if your dentures are made right, you will not have to wear any adhesive. Although, if you plan on eating anything like caramel apples, or anything sticky.. I would then suggest it. Also, if you have a horseshoe top denture, then it's also advisable to wear a denture cream. You don't need to necessarily take them out every night unless you are soaking/cleaning them. Denture brush & baking soda with some hot water mixed will rid of the adhesive

I have found that no chocolate removes any adhesive but over time of eating it, like if you were to eat it all day, it will loosen the adhesive

Karen you seem to know what you are talking about and today is day 2 for me but I had my teeth extracted almost 4 months ago. My biggest issue is with the bottom denture. While an adhesive does help when I eat they pop up and down making it impossible to eat with the bottom in. 2 questions. 1) Is this normal and something I will adjust to or do I need to already go back for an adjustment? 2) I am 34yrs old and was given little info so Im having to figure everything out on my own so I bought the Fixodent POWDER as well as the ADHESIVE CREAM because the lady used the powder when she put them in as well as the FIXODENT ADHESIVE CREAM on the bottom after I complained about the bottom denture being loose. So should I use the POWDER for the top and both for the bottom? I WENT TO AFFORDABLE DENTURES in MOREHEAD, KY.

Marcy:
I would go back to your dentist. Your denture should not be that loose. They can reline your denture again for a better fit. You will still probably need to use an adhesive cream but it will work better with a properly fitted denture. This is just my two cents worth.

Now that it's been a month and the swelling is gone my bottom dentures fit better. I have to glue them back in my mouth a couple times a day usually. But I can eat with them. I got to get a soft liner in 2 weeks. Hoping that will help.

I waited two weeks before trying adhesive in my top denture. It's been about 4 weeks since my front teeth are extracted (4 months since my back teeth came out) and when removing it, there is no discomfort at the back or roof of my mouth, but at the front which has had less healing, it still feels a little strange and tender coming out.

My bottoms are fine, but my top plate is painful going in and out because i have two very sore white spots at the front. Using green tea at room temperature as a mouth wash and also salt water rinse. Using them both, but interchanging them.
