Gummy smile

My first immediate upper denture made me look gummy. After the 2nd month I demanded new immediate upper denture.  Now I have 2nd immediate denture but still looks gummy.  Now the dentist apologized and said he should of had an alveoloplasty done and will schedule me to shave off five  millimeters off my upper bone to fix my gummy smile at no charge.

Isn't shaving off bone going to give me a caved in mouth?  Is five ml too much to shave off? Is this normal? Picture with my first and second immediate upper denture.

Anyone out there going through what I'm going through or have any advice for me.
