Day 5

I'm on day 5 full upper with immediate. The roof of my mouth is absolutely killing me and I feel like they're really pushing out under my nose. I'm not expecting perfection but this is annoying. Got appt for Thursday. Can't get here soon enough.

Brandon I remember my day 5. Lol. When u go in on Thursday they will most likely do a soft reline and fix any places that r causing any discomfort. Let me tell u that first soft reline will feel like HEAVEN for a few days to week. Lol. It's amazing how the slightest adjustments will feel so much better too. Good luck Thursday. Hope it goes really well.

You know, I keep reading all of you guys saying you've gotten soft realigns within a week but my dentist still hasn't done one and I'm at 4 and a 1/2 months. He says the earlier you do them the more they inhibit the healing process. That being said I didn't have the discomfort that a lot of you are having until I was in 6 to 8 weeks when my upper plate didn't fit anymore at all. It never fit well but it got really bad about that point. I had one "perm" denture made at 3 months by RK, knowing full well I'd have to have another 1 made before a year was up but it was OK because it was the only way I could function. I have my 1st soft re line in 2 weeks.

Debi I've had 1 soft reline at 10 days then at 3 month mark then again at 6 month mark. I could have gotten more my package included as many as needed but I didn't feel the the need. And in Dec I get my permanent denture. I wasn't in much discomfort but the soft relines r for as ur gums shrink the denture gets loose and rubs so the soft reline makes it fit snug again.

Oh I know what they are for. My dentist stands firm you dont get them for 4 -6 months to eliminate gum sheinkage and to not slow healing . Its weird every doctor is different on something this basic.

Brandon, hang in there my friend.  Days 3 - 5 are absolutely the worst.  I agree with Melanie about the soft relines making the gums feel so much better.  Debi, maybe your dentist feels that way because we start trying to chew with soft relines because it feels so much better???

Keep rinsing with salt water!  It's going to help your gums heal faster.  I used warm salt water because it felt so good, but I've heard others saying cold felt better to them, too.  I don't really think it matters as long as you've got a good teaspoon in 4 - 6 oz of water and rinse several times a day.

This might sound weird, but I also massaged my gums with tea tree oil and also with some Manuka honey, which is supposed to have some healing capabilities.  If you don't mind me saying what I really think helped me though - I had a whole group of people at my church praying for me to heal quickly - and I have.  My gums are doing pretty great!  I'm almost 6 weeks in and have eaten 2 hamburgers in the last couple of weeks and a Mr. Goodbar snack size today.  :-D

Yours will heal, too - keep posting, okay?
