Screw-in teeth to hold dentures

I have tried everything you can think of and my lower dentures do not stay...I cannot eat with them on. I can only wear them approx. 1-2 hours a day and after that they hurt so badly. It has gotten to the point where my dentist suggested this form of screw-in type of teeth that the lower denture will somehow latch onto it and help hold them in place. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions. Believe me I have tried EVERYTHING you can think of...besides these screw-in type things. Thanks

  • Hi I knew a woman who tried the screw in teeth and they hurt so much she had to have them taken out. I to am having alot of trouble with my bottom partial. I did have all my top teeth taken out and they are doing quite well. I keep going back to have the bottoms made more comfortable but so far its been terrible. I have lost alot of weight because of the partial to. but I am hanging in there and hoping for the best. try to talk to other people who have had the screw ones in before you do that I heard its very painful

  • I,too, have had a very hard time keeping my bottom full denture in, no matter what I use. I have to remove them to eat or drink because they just float out. As a result, I have lost approx. 50lbs. and have become very self-conscious and don't wear them at all anymore. I haven't heard of the procedure you are referring to but am interested in hearing how you make out (should you decide to do it) with the screw-in teeth to hold your bottom denture in. Good luck and keep the rest of us out here posted if you can. Thanks.

  • From everything I understand, having a bottom denture is much harder to deal with than the top. What about getting an implant? It would give the dentist something to secure the denture to so it can hold better. I just got the upper denture, still can't eat and I'm going to need 2 partials on the bottom. I still have my front 5 teeth on the bottom and that's what my dentist is going to secure the partials to, using a screw in method. I'm probably not too much help, but keep asking. There has to be something that works without causing all the pain! Good luck.

  • I'm sorry to hear about you having problems with your bottom dentures also. What do we do? Some people are so fortunate and don't have any problems what so ever. Than there are people like you and I and the others who wrote about their terrible discomfort and loss of weight. I have lost approx. 20 pounds because of it all! If you read the other posts on here one of them says she has lost approx. 50 pounds. I wish there were an answer. Please keep me informed if you can and I will you if I find out anything else. Take care of you.

  • Hi! I am sorry to hear about your terrible problem with your bottom dentures. I am right along side with you and the others as well who replied back on this message board. I have lost atleast 20 pounds myself. My Grandmother is said to have died because of malnutrition due to her bottom dentures not fitting well. Acutally she had problems with both the top and bottom dentures. I thank God that my top dentures are fitting so nicely. Please keep me posted if you hear of anything else. I will keep as much posted as possible if I decide to go along with these screw-in dentures. I'm terribly scared of all of it. I have found out that nutrional drinks...such as Ensure...quite possibly have kept me alive as long as I have been. I drink a lot of them...quite expensive...but I probably would have lost more than 20 pounds so far if I hadn't drank them. You might try them out. Please take care of yourself. Let's all keep eachother posted on all of this.

  • Hi! I hope you have more luck with your top dentures. I fortunatly am doing fine with them. It's the bottom ones that are sooooo painful and NEVER fit! Whatever you do don't let anyone take out those 5 bottom teeth you have! Fight for them! I am serious! If I had 5 teeth left on the bottom I'd be doing what you're going to do. Use them to hook a bottom partial to! Good luck to you and I and probably a lot of other people envy your 5 teeth you have left!!! Please keep us posted.

  • Please have your dentist check and make sure you have enough bone to support screw in lower dentures. I had mine done at Loma Linda and they lasted several years, but when had to be removed (metal fatigue) left me with almost no bone and even bone replacement (coral derivative) is not sufficient to hold screw ins.

  • To anyone needing help on screw in type dentures.
First you need to be able to afford IMPLANT surgery
it is very expensive and mostly Ins. will not want to pay
and the right Surgeon and dentist to perform your work.
Getting the implants placed in the bone is a very painful
and takes much time to heal before placing on the denture.
thing but then getting the denture placed is very important
fit is a must. I have had IMPLANTS for over 20 years
and mine is not with a denture snap in but wish it were.
Mine is the screw on Prosthetic. I have met a person
who has the 2 screws with the snap on denture and says
its the best thing ever and he eats anything he wants.
I do not have anything to allow denture to sit on my
gums so this is why I can't go to the denture with
snap ons to the screws. Maybe this is why those of
you are having trouble with pain...If your denture sits
on your gums and you don't have comfort there I can
see why you would have trouble. I can't stand anything
touching my tissue as it is so tender.
Only a dentist can remove mine and this is why I wish
I had the snap outs at least I could take them out.
If you can find a good surgeon and dentist who will
work together to get your work done you may have
    great sucess.
As one who understands any of your Pain jsut want
you to be encouraged. I have to chop my foods now
as I do have one implant that has broken down and
they all have to work together. This is no fun either.
This is Radical stuff to consider.
I hated hearing how the one who had to have hers
removed had to do so. I would like to hear what
she went through to have this done and if they had
to replace bone when they took the screws out?

  • I don't know if we can read others post e-mails
answers? I am new at this.
If you can find a good surgeon and dentist that
will work together to place your IMPLANT screws
and fit your denture over this you will like these.
I have a friend who just got this done and really
is enjoying it. You NEED to have gums where
denture will fit with comfort is what I understand
in order to do this. You can at least remove these
yourself. I have had Implants for over 20 years
and mine are screwed in permanent and only the
dentist can remove these which is a pain.
They tell me I can't get the snap offs becasue I can't
take anything sitting on my gums tissue.
I have a prosthetic that sits ontop of 5 posts
that are implanted in my lower jaw. I could
not stand anything touching my tissue it has
shrunk so bad and is tender. I have one implant
failing me now so also in pain and not much can
    be done about this.
This is a tough choice to decide to have anything placed
in jaw bone. I had mine done at age 50 and would not
have wanted to go without teeth.
I chop most of my foods now as I am having trouble
eating/chewing without pain...so I suppose any of these
can break down at some point.
I just keep a couple of those small choppers sitting on
my kitchen cabinet and chop even all my salads down
to where its as though someone chewed them for me.
It is not fun having to eat this way. But it is doeable
and will help keep you from weight loss.
If you want you can e-mail me and we can talk
about this if this is not a clear message.

  • good things to know on this subject. thank you all
I'm talking to a dentist at this time... he has decided that all my teeth are loose and need to be removed... I'm having sticker shock at the quoted price that I've gotten for uppers and lowers... then came the presentation on the implants... I bought my first house for what was quoted... I have another appointment to let them regroup and come up with other numbers... I have talked to friends who say the top dentures stay fixed and probably the implants are an unnecessary expense.. neither have lowers.. at this time I'm on the fence...now am wondering if I should put all off... although my bones are deteriorating... not sure how fast.. since I haven't seen a dentist in about 12 years.

    thanks again

  • sorry that I've double posted..
this is an interesting subject.. especially to the guy who doesn't have dentures yet.. the site has made me sit back and make some decisions in advance.. my kid has just gotten dentures.. he lives an another state and we seem to only talk via the net.. like some of you his lower plate slips a lot.. he eats without it.. has no shame.. posted a toothless photo on facebook..
what I have read about the posts is that they also keep your jaw bone (not sure the top is jaw bone) both upper and lower from deteriorating.. thus keeping your face looking about the same.. one article I read said that your face sags before you leave the office..have any of you seen this?
the midi implants seem to have high failure rate.. because they are short they can break when they are screwed in.. because the bone might be hard or over torque.. although they are easier and quicker to put in than the implants.. plus they can be put in right away.. they just screw into the bone thru the gum..
implants musthave a holedrilledthen screwed in.. the gum covers them.. when the gum heals then a connector is added and the denture is snapped on.. as I understand it this also keeps the denture from actually sitting on the gum.. you must have 4 on the top denture and can get by with 2 on the bottom.. they are expensive as well.. can range from 1200 to 1800 bucks each.. my guy wants 1750 each..the upper dentures isbuilt in the shape of an arch instead of having to cover the entire palate... this isgreat forpeople who otherwise cannot wear full dentures because they make them gag...

  • I hope everything is ok. New here so I don't know if you have fixed your problem. I had the same one, planning on getting the implants when I get my taxes. In the mean time, I have been using a product that is called Cushion Grip. It is a thermosplastic denture adhesive you put in your dentures and it forms to your gum, change it every week - I have actually went longer. Notaste or ooze. I can't eat or anything without it because my bottom dentures are so loose. I work in a nursing home and a resident showed it to me when I got my dentures 2 yrs ago.

  • I just got top dentures because a root canal last February caused the tooth to fracture and become abscessed. The tooth was finally pulled and infection spread to all upper teeth and I was told they had to be pulled. Now the infection is in the bottom and dont wasnt bottom denture s.when I take my uppers out I look 30 years older. What do you suggest I only have 7 teeth left on bottom and their infected thanks to all these dentists the las t few years.

  • I have the same problem. My dentist knows I can't afford implants, so he suggested I try Secure Denture Adhesive. It is totally different from all the other adhesives. It is actually an adhesive, and does not rely on suction to hold your plates. It also doesn't contain zinc and has no flavor. I use the paste for the uppers and the strips for the lowers. Check out their web-site.

I can wear my (bottom) dentures but nothing keeps them in place for long. I am removing them and reapplying paste many times a day. I have not found a GOOD fixative. Are your dentures on implants removeable? Thanks for any help as I am considering the instantaneous implants. Do you remember the cost of yours? I have no idea of the cost. Thanks so much. Gigi

I went to a prostilodontist that does inplants and am extreamly glad that I did. With the upper usingFixident I am able to eat corn on the cob, apples etc. It was costly, but worth every dime.
